Uniting Forces: Discover How We Are Bringing More CSOs to Join the Campaign
The Coalition of Actors for Public Health Advocacy (CAPHA) in partnership with the Ghana NCD Alliance (GhNCDA) organized a sensitization meeting in Accra for mapped out civil society actors for effective advocacy, awareness creation, development, and implementation of food environment policies in Ghana. The meeting involved identifying and mapping fifteen diverse civil society organizations (CSOs) with interest in promoting a healthy food environment, to brief them on the Healthier Diets for Healthy Lives (HD4HL) projects and the proposed policy bundles.
Presentations were made by the representatives from CAPHA, HD4HL project and the GhNCDA. Each presentation emphasized the importance of the front of pack labeling policy, which seeks to guide consumer preferences, purchasing decisions, and informed dietary choices about the healthiness of their foods to reduce the rising diet-related non-communicable diseases in Ghana.
Contributions from other coalition members, like the Ghana Public Health Association, Ghana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and Songtaba, underscored a unified commitment towards creating a healthier food environment in Ghana.

The Ghana NCD Alliance on September 22nd 2023 hosted a webinar on the theme "Understanding the Importance of Food Labelling Policies from the Data and Regulatory Perspectives" as part of the Healthier Diets for Healthy Lives (HD4HL) Project. National Coordinator Mr. Labram Musah opened the session, emphasizing the significant social and economic impact of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Ghana. He highlighted the need for effective front-of-pack labeling (FOPL) policies to promote healthier food choices.
The webinar featured presentations from Mr. Gideon Amevinya who provided an overview of the HD4HL project and the proposed food-based policy bundle. Mrs. Maureen Lartey from the Food and Drugs Authority discussed the regulatory perspective on Ghana's current FOPL policies, highlighting local evidence of their effectiveness. Mr. Daniel Mensah, a registered dietician and lecturer, educated participants on interpreting food label terminologies, encouraging them to make informed dietary decisions. The webinar was attended by health workers, researchers, students, and the general public.
